A young Sydney man has been sentenced to four years jail for shooting a laser
at a police helicopter, the court was told Abdul Eade thought it would be a
funny joke but the judge warned it could have been a disaster
Imagine being in control of a helicopter and being blinded by this
In April last year, POLAIR was patrolling over Auburn when
it came under laser attack,
as the chopper circled, officers aboard switched it's camera from infrared
to normal vision and back again clearly showing who's responsible, ground
police then swooped on eighteen year old Abdul Eade and his friends, today his parents
saw him sentenced to four years with
eighteen months non-parole
What do you think about your son's sentence?
The now twenty-year-old had faced a maximum term of fourteen years,
his lawyer says he's sorry
He certainly is,
he's remorseful, he's grown up -The judge says the offence is
extremely serious
It could have been a disaster in a densely populated urban area
Abdul Eade wrote the court an apology letter saying he thought the use of the laser was a prank and a funny joke
He says he wasn't thinking about hurting anyone and only now sees the danger of his actions
If you're young and foolish and you're even contemplating this type of thing,
you can expect to go to jail
