Back in 1980, the year that PETA was founded, our office consisted of a telephone and a
typewriter in my basement apartment. That's it. Today, PETA is the largest animal rights
group in the world.
The word “PETA” has become synonymous with “animal rights.” Our street-theater-style
demonstrations, our provocative ads, our racy online videos, and our hard-hitting undercover
investigations have grabbed the public’s attention and started people thinking about
the cruelty that animals endure on factory farms and fur farms, in laboratories and circuses.
We are revolutionizing the way the world views and treats animals.
PETA has achieved historic victories for animals, including closing the largest horse-slaughter
operation in the United States, shutting down experiments in which animals were tortured
and killed, persuading top designers like Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger to stop using
fur, and convincing companies, including Estee Lauder, Avon, and Revlon to stop testing their
products on animals. Our very first undercover investigation, at a laboratory in Silver Spring,
Maryland, resulted in the first arrest and criminal conviction of an animal experimenter
in the United States on charges of cruelty to animals. All of these accomplishments are
made possible thanks to the tremendous hard work of PETA’s staff, interns, and volunteers
and the support of our members. We’re looking for hardworking, good people who are truly
dedicated to making this world a better place for animals. We have job openings in many
departments including international campaigns, marketing, policy, and youth campaigns. If
you’re interested in changing the world, consider applying to join our lifesaving team
today. You can apply online at PETA.org. I look forward to meeting you.
