My name is Sarah Schulz and I'm an assistant professor of behavioral sciences in
the department of humanities and human sciences at Point Park University.
I'm currently teaching sociological foundations
which is part of the core curriculum here at Point Park
and also introduction to social work, which is a required course for behavior sciences majors.
My areas of research interest are gender identity, medical sociology, and mental health.
My most recent project focuses on the health care experiences of members of the transgender
community and specifically I'm interested in how their experiences receiving services may impact
gender identity development.
As a social worker, I'm concerned with issues of of social justices, and I bring that to the forefront
of my classroom discussions. In the courses I teach, we often deal with challenging theoretical
concepts, and I like to use examples from pop culture to help students understand.
You make work in the mental health field as a case manager. You could work in the criminal
justice field, the child welfare field. The degree would also help prepare a student for graduate studies.
The student body here is incredibly unique and diverse and I think this is a wonderful learning environment.
