So, these bicycles came on the scene in the mid fifty's. Different manufacturer's produced
them at different times, but once they caught on, everybody stopped making balloon tire
bikes and started making these middleweight bikes. They all have one point seven five
inch width tires, and the tires are generally have a nice, smooth tread. The idea for these
bikes was to have a faster bike. Companies stopped making these bikes, they were only
made for maybe ten years, they stopped making them when the Stingray style bikes started
becoming popular, which I'll talk about those bikes in another segment. But, these bikes
had a short run and they're still easy to find and they're not extremely collectible,
although some of them are very unique. The woman's bikes had a step through frame, and
they all had curvy angles with a lot of points, and the space age look. The earlier bikes
are going to have chrome fenders, some of other bikes had painted fenders. But, generally
on an earlier bike you're going to find a softer curve up here, the later bikes became
more pointed.
