welcome to this review of the Panasonic lumix LX7
This is one of the the best compact cameras currently available with some fantastic features
for the professional photographer, enthusiast, or as we shall see, serious videographer.
It offers fast, reliable and accurate performance, a good range of genuinely useful features,
outstanding build quality, excellent handling, and beautiful image quality under any shooting
conditions.
At the heart of this camera is the stunning 24-90mm leica variable zoom lens, which is
the fastest available on a compact, offering apertures from 1.4 to 2.3. this is quite remarkable
and allows you to shoot at very fast shutter speeds, in very low light, or shoot stunning
bokeh , or background defocussed, images.
This kind of lens is perfect for video and the LX7 helps further with an inbuilt Neutral
density filter, which can drop the brightness by unto 3 stops. This gives the camera great
flexibility when shooting movies. - allowing you to keep the aperture open in good light
Built for simplicity of use, the aperture settings are changed on one of the two lens
rings, the other lets you change the aspect ratio, from square, 4 by 3 ,3 by 2 and 16
by 9. In fact everything you need is immediately to hand on the LX7 and long menus are kept
to a minimum.
It has a fistful of filter effects and can shoot a burst of ten frames per second.
It can be fully manual for a considered shot or you can shoot fully automatic - the LX7
auto mode is considered one of the best around. The Back screen is bright and hi-resolution
and the pop-up flash gets good results up to a distance of 8 1/2 metres.
A Flashgun and electronic viewfinder are available as accessories.
Whilst the 10 megapixel CMOS sensor is relatively small, a larger one would restrict the flexibility
of the magnificent lens and 10 megapixels is really all most people will ever need.
The LX7 offers movie makers a level of control unheard of in compact cameras. The ability
to shoot full 1080 HD video at 60p with full manual control is quite astonishing. This
level of control is way beyond anything on any other compact camera and leaves many professional
DSLRs in the shade.
The Lumix LX7 has just taken another leap forward ahead of its rivals and squeezes some
remarkable full professional functionality into its slim, pocket sized body. At the moment
it is the leader of the pack
