Hello I'm Bruce Marshall, fashion designer and Emmy nominated costume designer here today
to show you how to dress like it's the 1950's. Now there were certain elements int he 50's
that were just always standard and basically what we are talking about are the pleated
pants and all of the pants always had these big double pleats up front and they were pretty
much wide and full so you will always notice that with the classic 1950's trouser and then
the other key signature of the 1950's is the skinny tie. The narrow tie reigns supreme
during those days and pretty much if you've got one of those on that is a big clue that
you are pretty much in the 50's, and also the old handy cardigan sweater, you can't
leave home without it and if it is Argyle, even so much the better, you're totally in
that decade, the 1950's. Now another groovy thing about the 1950's was that it was the
decade where America really thought that they had it altogether and so from the comfortable
fabrics and they used a lot of it because it was after the war and people were ready
to use some fabrics and clothing and you'll understand that is why you get extra pleating,
extra fabric, extra 50's.
