Hi! I’m Lisa Krone and I am here with Best Epicurean on behalf of expertvillage.com and
today we are going to make cocoa from scratch. What I’ve done is I’ve grabbed a coffee
cup and I like to use paper because a lot of times our cocoa is going to our little
ones out in the snow or maybe our big ones who are shoveling the sidewalk, so we stick
with paper just because it is going outside. I’ve taken a little over a cup of milk and
I’ve heated it for about 2 minutes and what I like to do is I like to first grab my cocoa
and what I use to portion this out is, this is my coffee scooper, and this is how I make
my coffee in them morning. I’ll take about 2 scoops of my cocoa and make it a hefty scoop;
we don’t want to chintz on the chocolate any and just close that out, and then we are
going to pour about maybe half a cup worth of milk in there. Now because this is like
regular cocoa and not a cocoa mix, I like to use a fork to mix it up and I can do vigorous
mixing. There we go, nice and vigorous. If you hear a little bit of squeaking in the
background, it’s my dog Kathy, a poodle. Alright, so there we have a beautiful mix.
Now I’m going to grab the rest of my milk and I’m going to pour it in. I don’t pour
right to the top because I have some goodies to put in here. This is unsweetened cocoa,
so I have to come up with something sweet. So what I am going to do is I love to use
all natural syrup. This one is vanilla and I think that my cold people outside who are
shoveling my sidewalk are going to love it. I am going to pour probably almost to the
top and I am going to use this instead of sugar but for you guys who don’t have this
syrup, I have some sugar here. I’m not going to add it but what I am going to do is put
in a dollop just a drop of half and half to make it a little creamier and you don’t
need a whole lot. Now I am going to take my fork and I am just going to stir it a little
bit and I have hot cocoa that I made myself and that is how you make hot cocoa without
a mix.
