Hi! This is David Jackel on behalf of Expert Village and I'm here to talk to you about
staying hydrated as a way of preventing a cold. Now water is very important because
it flushes out your system and removes the toxins that may cause you to have a disease.
But a lot of us don't get as much water as we should, but just because of bad habits.
We wake up in the morning, have a cup of coffee and go off to work. At lunch we drink soda.
In the evening maybe you'll have a beer or a glass of wine with your dinner and you don't
drink enough water. Doctors recommend having at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day which
might mean like quiet a bit and I don't recommend counting every glass of water that you drink,
but you should have a glass of water with every meal, you should drink water anytime
you're doing a strenuous activity, if it's very hot outside, during the summer for example
or in winter when a room has a lot of heating in it and it gets very dry, you want a drink
so you don't get dehydrated. I recommend carrying a water bottle with you in general just so
always have water if you feel like you need it and sometimes even if you don't really
feel like you need it, you should probably have a little bit anyway. Sometimes I feel
like I'm tired or I'm stressed out and I don't know why and then I realize I haven't had
any water all day, I have a glass of water and I feel much better and very refreshed.
You can also drink hot tea as a way of staying hydrated because it loosens up your nose and
your throat and that's good for you to prevent a cold. But don't drink too much caffeinated
tea because if you have too much caffeine, it will actually dry you out and it'll make
you edgy which contributes to stress which contributes to catching a cold. So make a
habit of drinking water regularly, you'll find that you're more healthier overall and
it will help you prevent a cold.
