Paul Ryan stepped in it earlier this week when he seemed to indicate that the
cause of poverty in America
is you damn lazy black people I decide for yourself in this
audiotape Press thats still spinner spiral that we're looking at in our
communities you know
your body charles Murray or for bob cut over our
thursdays are in box on the which is
we have got this tailspin of culture
in our inner cities in particular are men networking just
generation stuff man not even thinking about working or learning the value
on the culture of work into their real culture problem here that has to be
dealt with
everybody to get involved tell us what we talk about
want to talk with civil society if you're driving from the suburbs
units the sports arena downtown by the blighted neighborhoods you can't just
say I'm paying my taxes government for the fix that you need to get involved so
instantly a great deal of criticism people saying that I am using the inner
city in that
I in that way is is code words for
black basically here's an example this is %uh representative barbara Lee
a democrat from california says my colleague congressman Ryan's comments
about inner-city poverty are thinly-veiled racial attack
and cannot be tolerated let's be clear when mister Ryan says inner-city
when he says culture these are simply code words for what he really means
black disagree with you I don't think it's that'll email Press
yeah it's are no its not be I just got bailed
yeah Vale breakage didn't say the word black
here at does anybody think that there's a different
the meaning over inner-city yeah like so in love with ironic thing here is that
if he just said culture in terms over
where we stand as he later amended in rural areas and inner city et cetera
okay
will get his excuse and said second that's not racial either
it went but when you go into the rural areas yeah that means white
yeah so and that would be a way of saying I'm blaming
all poor people could then I just poor black people right then you could have
an interesting conversation about hey what's going wrong culturally
that we're not emphasizing education we have two fix in that regard it's a tough
conversation
where people are so going to get offended rate but at least we're having
possibly productive conversation into what's going wrong in the country in
place in
instead this a way of saying welfare queen they're lazy
et cetera and it's just black yeah they're getting those clips from the
government
good he is wrong about power you know and I think a lot of people were wrong
about Paul Ryan I sorta thought that
they put on myspace on things he's done
no it's not like I don't think he's the evil I really don't
he quotes I'm rand and charles Murray
without having any clue what they mean to people
who they are mean you know charles Murray and John and I were talking about
this before and I'm
II confused with someone else but i misses the bell curve guys this is the
guys is black and Dumber the Bordeaux
yeah criminal acts a withdrawal position at a different time and a different way
there are the smartest rest what makes him sound ominous to me in that
little speech he gave is the fact that he's overlooking
the fact that the sports stadiums that they did the hut
have been really benefited the neighborhood they've been held in
but but is it bad to the point that he's gonna missing the that the incredibly in
gigantic tax breaks and all the money that was poured into these things with
the promise that
gentrifying neighborhoods hasn't happened
eternal bachelor then it doesn't happen in not just Minneapolis
but it doesn't happen in LAN it doesn't happen in cities across America
around done you know I want to and it's funny because one other places where it
has happened
affectively an alert to the extent that they dope as Washington DC which was
where the MCI Serrano it's called now where the capitals and the Wizards play
and the whole dollar bill to like a bill that himself
I'm sure got some tax breaks and was encouraged will be paid for
with dollars but he added the back you know
and so I just think it's ironic that the while an order was like non take your
money I built my t-mobile bill that will help and hopefully on courage me to
build
and now there are about a restaurant so that's a nice area but they didn't get a
tax break for nell
giant really fast because I know that many people watching this %uh
conservatives have across your body is going to say oh you guys are being too
hard inner-city that could mean so many different things
a a freak by occasional Toit contributor David throw to
to Searcy but we have a graph for a show for you this is the frequency by a year
love the term inner-city I in books in this massive Google
a like I guess compendium and you can see that it's spikes
in the sixties going through to the 70 S and that this is the quote that
from from David throw to the term basically only started being used in the
lead-up to an immediate aftermath of the civil rights movement legislative
successes
at precisely the moment the conservative political backlash for the civil rights
movement came into vogue
apparently they were scared enough by those legislative successes that they
began to hide at least the
some extent their racist terminology through terms like inner-city
now more recently like fog and the guy who he quoted charles Murray whose
sister
racist and suit I'm
a yeah I mean literally talked about that he says that you know the that all
these there the is the country's filled with white people and they know there's
something wrong with these black people but they don't quite can put their
finger on it
I and it turns out I'm here to tell them that it's OK
they're dumb in life and I think he goes further than that and and this goes to
an earlier point the band made about Paul Ryan in his
sophistication rate so he was smart enough to read I am A and it's an
interesting book grade
but he's not sophisticated enough to realize this possible downsides like for
example he's a good talk talk school only in public about Iran and the like
hey you idiot you're running for Vice President I am rentals a massive ABS
that might be
some political trouble breathing all golly gee oh my god I am me about that
money oh yeah I know several money and by the way then devote her life to
government support and is a massive paper grade
and also its the because for Superman theory
supported and an looked up to mass killer
okay she felt like our yeah I waited BB on moral be wrong man
so but he Paul Ryan doesn't know it but a lot of this and
he like sophistication not been easy mobile just is a very simple thinker
right and when he talks about charles Murray somebody musta told them hey
charles Murray is a professor
he's and he followed the American Enterprise exactly it's okay to call him
but he didn't even read one pager charles Murray cousin Yuri charles
Murray
not only does he say all the things I bet mention he goes on to say
we should not have affirmative action or how can I help women that's kind of
counterintuitive
because if you think black people are less intelligent than why people should
help them or
know he says no they're so stupid that they're hopeless writer
and Paul Ryan thinking about running for president again ran for vice president
quote charles Murray in public like oh well you know your buddy Joe very
yeah it's okay that's what I mean by it is that he's a simple simple guy
ball riley is a move you know the language is really dangerous
when you start talking about the culture of work yeah
in a place you've never lived in the start point your finger at those people
its thats rhetorically dangerous *** it's really
ugly you know you know if he in live didn't say Detroit for the past 10 years
working
disorder close the gap between me eight-mile in downtown and worked in
and said I know here's what I found out but that's not it it's not my drive
to my box seats her from my house
right ICM I got a problem with the culture of work
yeah want in as the other year and I thought the exact same thing I thought
who is he talk to you what professor a brewer been studies
has he spent anytime with even a conservative professor
government studies what mayors a big cities
has he gone and talk to you as he met with that how head of Housing and Urban
Development
or any of their lifelong career
a bureaucrats who are working the civil servants
like understand the problem you a course he's done not a maturing and I don't
even if we don't know you know the answer
we always does exactly which is that which is get it is Chevy Suburban
and go to bucks games got their neighborhoods that made a block is dork
after being criticized extensively over a few days Paul Ryan came back with this
statement saying
it is clear that I was I was inarticulate about the point I was
trying to make
I was not implicating the culture one community but of society as a whole
we've allowed our society the isolator quarantine the poor rather than in to
bring people into our communities
the predictable result has been multi generational poverty and little
opportunity
I also believe the government's response was inadvertently create a poverty trap
that builds barriers to work
a stable good paying job is the best bridge out of poverty
have to get that back as well as you said the first time you know what I'm
getting way ahead right on are as yet and that's a fine point to me
and the reason he said that at that point is because he didn't say it
throw somebody honest after I wrote that and then realize that as a state
