This vase by René Lalique is one of my favourite things in Brighton Museum.
It was made in the 1930's,
but I think the thing that I like about it is that it actually looks really contemporary.
I don't think that it looks out of place now, almost a hundred years later.
It has a freeze of naked men around it.
It actually reminds me a lot of a kind of Roman or Greek freeze.
But it's actually, I think one of the campest things that we've got in the collection
Lalique was a really famous french designer, he actually studied in the UK.
He made a lot of Art Nouveau jewellery
But then in the 1920's, he started making a lot of glassware
He designed interiors for ocean liners
and he made really beautiful vases, light fittings and things for home interiors
and the company is still going today.
