My name is Abby Jones and we're talking about the process of moving into a new apartment
and the things that need to happen to make that process easy and efficient. Alright,
now we're talking about organizing and moving into a new kitchen. So, based on my assessment
of the space, I know that I'm going to be needing to create certain barriers with my
furniture. So the major pieces of furniture that I have which I have that a lot of people
have are a dining room table or some sort of breakfast room table, something like that.
And in many cases that will the central point in the kitchen or the dining area. I chose
to put mine here based on a couple of things. One, based on the location of the fan, which
obviously was there before I moved in, and I had no say-so on where that was. And so
I used that as a marker to line up my table. And I also took into consideration the flow
around the table, making sure that there was enough space around each side of the table
for people to walk and for me to get out the door, that kind of thing. Another place I
considered putting the table and I didn't just because of the shape of the table, but
if you had a fold-down table another good place to put that might have been the stairs.
It would have left this space all open and I could have had a fold-down table that went
all the way up to the stairs and with one leaf down, and I'd have three chairs around
the outside and stored the extra chair underneath the stairs. So that's just another option
for another kind of table people have. Another piece of furniture that a lot of people have
in a kitchen is a cutting block. This is my cutting block, which I'm now using as a supply
table for my move, keeping supplies that I might need. But I'll normally be using this
for food and whatnot. I'm using it here to create a barrier between my living space and
my kitchen, and I'm playing off the support beam right here. So I chose to put this here
to separate my spaces because I have one big open space, and it's convenient to my oven
and my stove. I chose to put it on this side of the kitchen as opposed to near my refrigerator
or something like that because of its location next to the stove. And I mean it also happens
to be convenient to the table as well. So those are some things that you want to think
about as you're placing your furniture. Mostly just the function, the purpose of what you're
doing, and also the aesthetics.
