Hi everyone, Melissa here, CloudMom.com. So very recently, last week, I was faced with
a very interesting conundrum. I went to the doctor, finally, it's taken me years to go
get a check-up. And he told me that I am totally deficient in vitamin D. Right smack in the
middle of the summer, and I was like, "What? But I drink milk, I get calcium." He's like,
"No. You need sources. You need vitamin D to help your body absorb the calcium." He
told me. It's really, really important apparently, in terms of fighting breast cancer, heart
disease, osteoporosis, this whole thing. So I'm like, "okay, what do I do?" So I've been
looking into this lately, and that's today's vlog. A couple things I found out, which I
had no clue about. We all worry so much about sun damage and skin cancer is obviously very
important, but a lot of people recommend a certain amount of exposure every day, or a
couple times a week, during midday, and during the summer, to the sun. So that the body can
develop vitamin D. Interesting, right? You're supposed to go out a certain amount. Then,
you're supposed to put on your sunblock. During the winter, you have to think even more about
what kind of foods you're eating to get that vitamin D, and probably take a supplement.
I called my [?], who I love to death, and she's really, like good at all this stuff.
And she said this is excellent. I don't know if you guys want to try it. I bought it on
Amazon, the big one. It's a multi-vitamin, has a lot of vitamin D. A couple other foods
I found out are really good. Fortified skim milk, here's mine. I actually drink the 1%
a lot of the times. Oily fish, canned tuna is also supposed to be good, although it doesn't
have quite as much, and fortified cereal. So this is kind of going to become my plan.
I've got to concentrate on this a little more, think about it a little more. And it's going
to be part of my "taking care of mommy," you know, series here. Because I'm really trying
to focus a little more about what I need to do for myself, healthwise, now that I'm through
with having and nursing all these babies. So anyway, let me know below, please, what
you do when it comes to sunblock and vitamin D. If you have other suggestions, I'd love
to hear them. And thank you so much for watching CloudMom.
