FEMALE SPEAKER: Gleeks get double the fun, judges select
the US finalists for Juste Debout, and a special spin on
Shakespeare hits theaters.
This is Just Dance for February 10, 2011.
Gleeks were awarded a double dose of Glee for their
patience during the comedy's hiatus with two all-new
episodes in one week.
After the Super Bowl, fans were treated to some hot
dances to "California Gurls" and "Bills, Bills, Bills." But
it was choreographer Zach Woodlee's fresh take on
"Thriller" that caught our attention.
It's quite difficult to choreograph to a song with an
iconic dance like "Thriller," but Woodlee rose to the
challenge and did an exceptional job.
On the February 8 Valentine's Day themed episode, the new
directions got down to "PYT," "Firework," and Queen's "Fat
Bottomed Girls." Tune in to Fox for an all-new episode of
Glee on February 15.
The first Live To Dance champion and winner of a half
million dollars was revealed after America's votes on
February 9.
After six heart-pounding and high-energy performances last
week, DeAngelo and Amanda earned $500,000 and became the
first winning act of Live To Dance.
The CBS series gave dozens of dancing acts across the US a
platform to showcase their talents, and we can only hope
that Paula, Kimberly, and Travis will return for a
second season.
MTV'*** reality show America's Best Dance Crew has
been touring the country looking for the hottest crews
to compete on the show's sixth season.
DanceOn had the chance to sit in on the New York rounds and
chatted with the series' choreographer, Rosero McCoy.
ROSERO MCCOY: As far as growth from each individual crew,
once they make it on the show, it's tremendous.
Because a lot of these kids, you have to realize, they've
never even been in front of a camera.
They just have done these crew things at different
conventions and on the streets.
And our routines are more like 50 seconds, so they have to
get right to the point.
So you really notice from their first routine to the end
routine the growth in the show.
FEMALE SPEAKER: For more interviews and crews, check
out our full audition feature, and be sure to tune in to the
season premiere of America's Best Dance Crew on April 7.
The US preliminary round for Juste Debout took place in
Brooklyn on February 5, where hundreds of hip hop dancers
battled it out to rep the red, white, and blue at the
worldwide street dance competition in Paris.
New York natives Hurricane and Firelock won the locking
round, while New Yorker Sam O dominated
the top rock battles.
All the way from CA, J-Smooth and Kid Boogie were crowned
winners of the popping category, and DC duo Toyin and
Tasha nabbed the title in the house division.
Lil O and Tyger traveled to NYC from Philadelphia and will
now travel to Paris to dance it out in the hip hop rounds.
The Juste Debout finals will take place
on March 13 in France.
An animated take on Shakespeare's classic Romeo
and Juliet hits theaters Friday, February 11, and it's
aptly titled Gnomeo and Juliet.
The Walt Disney film follows the feud between neighboring
garden gnomes, with music by the extraordinary Elton John.
Golden Globe nominees James McAvoy and Emily Blunt voice
the star-crossed lovers, and choreographer John O'Connell
is the man behind the moves.
His work has been seen in Strictly Ballroom, Enchanted,
and Moulin Rouge.
With lawnmower races, talkative amphibians, and pink
flamingos, Gnomeo and Juliet is sure to be a hit for the
whole family.
-Attack!
