Hello there it's Ruth Sherman, CEO and celebrity speech
and media coach but you don't have to be famous to work with me.
I was so sad to see that Harold Ramis had died
I consider Harold Ramis to be one of the great comedic artists
our generation and he is my generation. He's a boomer like I
am and by the wa,y if you are another generation a younger generation and you
haven't
seen Harold Ramis movies please please please
watch them. They are timeless and they are so funny.
And something that occurred to me that I really never thought about...
as I was watching the movies, I was only thinking about my own pleasure just
laughing out loud each time.
I would see them and wanting to see them over and over and over again
But something that occurred to me in reading his obituaries
was that his his humor was extremely warm, it was extremely generous
and they're extremely real. He pulled a lot of this stuff
from I think real-life and that of course is what made him
so successful. But it was more than that there was also a certain respect to the
he way he portayed women and
I can tell you that though certainly his movies were
from a male perspective, a male point of view and probably and and were
considered
boy humor in their day, but
the idea that he
had, there was a warmth to them, a certain generosity
to them and he knew would make fun
of boys behaving badly. He also knew how to make fun of
girls behaving badly. At the same time it wasn't
the treatment of women in his movies was
there always was a level of respect which is something I don't see
in today's boy humor movie
genre, if you will. So
one thing that I want to say about it I mention, I alluded to a moment ago
is the I'm very big on storytelling and the fact that
I have seen Harold Ramis movies and probably many of you too
have seen them repeatedly over and over over again
and you know what's coming in you look forward to the same scenes you know
that they're funny and you again you've seen a million times you think like how
can i still
how can the still entertain me how can I still laugh and you do
is what great storytelling is
all about. So make sure that you watch
Animal House, Caddyshack. Caddyshack iin particular, can I tell you
and and what was the other one, Groundhog Day.
Stripes. That was a minor movie but really really funny
with Bill Murray wanted his when his partners and
and see what I mean about the storytelling and then watch them again
watch them again and watch them again and see how you still laugh
so rest in peace Harold Ramis.
I'm gonna miss you. if you want to learn more about storytelling and using humor
