Pittsburg State University hosted High Light High School Art Day on campus November 18,
2010. The day kicked off with over 150 students from the surrounding area high schools competing
in a sidewalk chalk painting contest. Despite the morning chill, Uniontown High School art
teacher Chris Woods thought it was a great success.
Chris Woods-“The event has been a little bit chilly but great. We’ve been enjoying
it. The kids have been working really great as a team, working hard and it’s been great.”
Students were also encourage to bring two pieces of their personal art work to be displayed
and judged by one of their guest speakers for the day, Corey Hine. As a PSU Alum and
currently a production artist three for Hallmark Cards, Corey remembers what it’s like to
be in the student’s shoes. Corey Hine-“Well you know I remember my
time in high school and you know I was in art and coming to these art days. I just remember
being in awe of the work that I saw and you know being really proud of the work that I
had done and being able to be in these shows. You know they got a couple years left to go
but I think that hopefully this is a step in the right direction and if I can influence
just one of those kids to get into art and be successful, that would make me really happy.”
Twenty honorable mentions were given out for all the great work presented during the contest.
Pittsburg State University would like to thank everyone who participated and here are the
rest of today’s results.
