My name is Jesus Cardoso, and I’m going to teach you how to level your drum tracks.
First of all, have your drums tracks available and sounding before you start mixing all the
rest of the instruments, and kind of mix all the rest of the instruments towards your drum
mix. Here we have the drums and the piano just by itself, which would be a good starting
point for this mix. I already made sure that I like how the instruments were labeled towards
each other, like the right amount of bass drum, the right amount of snare, the right
amount of hats and the right amount of cymbals. Then I start measuring everything else towards
this balance and I start putting instruments little by little. I add another keyboard.
I have the bass, strings, a little guitar. If I can actually get to hear all these instruments
correctly and fully without being buried by the drums or without them overbearing the
punch that the drums give, that means that they’re pretty much in balance. You should
be able to hear everything without covering any other instrument. If you have that mix,
then you probably have a decent sounding mix.
