What attracted you to playing Jane in 27 Dresses?
It's everything I want in a comedic character. I love this kind of comedy and enjoyed seeing how far I could push the humour. I've been waiting my entire career to have this kind of role.
Talking of dresses, you looked fantastic in your scarlet Escada number at the Oscars this year. Do you tend to obsess over what to wear in public?
I don't really think about it too much. I don't know. Some days I feel really great about the way I look in certain outfits and then I see a photograph and I look terrible. It depends on the day and the outfit and how much salt I ate the night before - or whether I've had a burger or a salad! It's so fluctuating. I'm such a girl about it. I'm never satisfied with the way I look. There was a whole month when I was really totally into my workout and eating really well, and I was really excited about how I was looking. And then it started to not feel like me and I didn't like it at all.
With Grey's Anatomy, Knocked Up and now 27 Dresses, you're on a roll right now. Do you feel you need to capitalise on this?
Yes, you do feel you have to strike while the iron is hot. But I'm definitely not a workaholic. I'd much rather be sitting on the couch with my dog. I mean, I love what I do but I need a week or two between projects. It was such a cool opportunity to do Knocked Up and then an awesome opportunity to do 27 Dresses, so I just couldn't say no. One day I will!
Were you always a natural show-off as a child?
I think that I always loved being the centre of attention! I was the youngest child and really spoiled. I loved to play make-believe. I loved pretending to be all kinds of different people and it just seemed natural that I would go into acting.
