UVic Peer Helping supports students in a bunch of different ways.
They are a dedicated, inclusive group of caring student volunteers, available to listen with open minds to their fellow students.
They’re available for private and confidential one on one support
in their office of the Learning Commons if students need to talk or need a listening ear.
Although the various committees can change year to year, the regular committees include the Wellness Committee,
which promotes health and wellness on campus by hosting social and informational events,
Check out the weekly coffee house where students can connect with each other over free coffee, tea, and baked goods.
The International Committee offers language practice through the English Language Centre
and hosts activities to help international students learn about life on campus and in Canada.
They host great Christmas and Halloween parties.
The Learning Skills Committee supports the academic success of UVic students through projects including workshops
on things like effective reading and how to talk to professors.
They also helped create the Professor Study Tips website, where professors list advice to help students get the most from their classes.
The Advertising Committee promotes events and services being organized by the Peer Helpers,
so all those activities, workshops, and free cookies and coffee get noticed.
You can learn more about Peer Helping by visiting our website at peerhelping.uvic.ca ;
or by visiting their office on the main floor of the McPherson Library. They’re always happy to offer help or lend a friendly ear.
Peer Helpers also volunteer in the Welcome Center and students are welcome to drop by and connect with them there too.
So come on by!
