Hi, I'm Stephen Monet, Manager of Environmental Planning Initiatives
with the City of Greater Sudbury and, this is EarthCare Minute.
Greater Sudbury sure doesn't look like it did 30 years ago.
Today there's a lot more trees thanks to the city's Regreening Program. Through
the Regreening Program,
City crews and hundreds of volunteers have limed almost thirty five hundred
hectares of land and planted
over 9 million trees. Despite the success of our regreening efforts, there is still a
lack of biological diversity
in much of Greater Sudbury. To help change that,
a Biodiversity Action Plan for Greater Sudbury has been developed. One of the
actions of the plan is to recover forest floor mats
from land being cleared for various developments and move these to
Greater Sudbury's former barron's. Over time
the relocated plants will take root, jump-starting the return
a healthy, self-sustaining forests. EarthCare Minute.
One minute is all it takes. Brought to you by the City of Greater Sudbury.
