Wouldn’t it be great if you could make your house warm and cosy, produce your
own green energy perhaps, replace those old windows and add value to your home
without having to find the cash to pay for it all?
Well you can. Under the government’s Green Deal, anybody can get expert
advice on what would be best for their home and get the work done and it might
not even cost you a penny. You’ve got to go for the Green Deal
because it’s a no lose situation. You’re getting the work done, you’re saving
money and energy and you’re not having to lay out for it now.
The Green Deal Loan is a loan with a difference. It’s paid back through your
electricity bill out of the savings made by your new insulation, heating or whatever
work you get done so you don’t have to find any more money.. It’s designed so
that you should always save more from the improvements than they cost.
We’ve been in the house since it was new, which is 19 years now and it’s just
generally wearing out, the boiler’s getting older and we’ve been told by the gas
board they can’t get spare parts for it anymore and the wooden double glazing
is now starting to leak and we’ve tried insulating it but it’s now really getting to
the stage where it just needs replacing. Got new windows, new boiler, we have
solar panels for both electricity and thermal hot water and I’ve had my
playroom insulated, ceiling and floor.
Dozens of energy saving or even energy producing technologies can be bought
under the Green Deal. An assessor will come to your home to help work out what
improvements are possible and of best value. If you decide to go ahead, the work
will be done by Green Deal approved installers.
A lot of people think that with an older house it would be difficult to do a lot of
the things and maintain the integrity, you know, the characteristics of the property,
because when we bought the house, it’s got sash windows, single-glazed, things
like internal insulation so it's worth, definitely, worth doing.
I’m very hopeful, that’s why I took this step. The energy costs are going very
high and in the long term, hopefully it will help me a lot.
I would strongly recommend this to other people. If they get the chance they will go
ahead.
