HEALTH REPORT.
IT'S BEEN AROUND FOR ONLY A FEW
YEARS, BUT ALREADY BRYAN
HEALTH'S NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE
UNIT HAS SAVED THE LIVES OF OF
COUNTLESS BABIES...AND THIS WEEK
EVERYONE GOT TOGETHER FOR A VERY
SPECIAL REUNION.
BRYAN'S NICU OPENED JUST
FIVE-AND-A-HALF YEARS AGO AND
THIS WEEK BABIES, TODDLERS,
PARENTS, NURSES AND DOCTORS ALL
GATHERED TO REMEMBER THOSE
TRYING TIMES AND SEE HOW FAR
EVERYONE'S COME.
LAST YEAR ELI WORKENTINE SPENT
40-DAYS IN THE NICU. MOTHER AMY
HAD SEVERE PRE-ECLAMPSIA WHICH
FORCED ELI TO BE DELIVERED
9-WEEKS EARLY. IT WAS DAYS
BEFORE AMY WAS EVEN ABLE TO HOLD
HER BABY. AMY AND FATHER NATE
RELIED ON THE HOSPITAL STAFF TO
SAVE THEIR CHILD AND KEEP THEM
UPDATED. NOW AT 15-MONTHS HE'S A
HEALTHY TODDLER ALMOST
IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP STILL.
If we missed a feeding, the
nurses were really good about
writing notes on the board
saying "Hi mom and dad, I ate 7
CC's today while you were gone.
Love Elijah." Just little things
like that.
When you see these babies now,
two years removed, how well they
are doing, that's the part that
makes it all worthwhile.
When you have people that are
caring like that that aren't
there just to do their job,
they're there to take care of
the family. It's natural for
you to want to get to know them
and become friends.
IT WAS THE FIRST HAPPY REUNION
OF WHAT BRYAN HOPES WILL BE MANY
MORE IN THE FUTURE. AN
