It may be August but here at the Highway Depot, we’re already prepared for winter snow.
We’re preparing the vehicles for the winter season – cleaning them, designing gritting
routes and stocking up with salt. We stock about 15 hundred tons to ensure we’ll keep
the streets and pavements free, even in the worst weather.
Our team of six gritters and four slow ploughers, and we get shovels from the local authority
we get out of grit at the drop of a hat to keep the roads running. Narrow streets, unpredictable
weather, stuck cars are most challenges we’re facing on daily basis. We design the routes
carefully to make sure that we can get around everyone and keep the roads clear, whatever
the weather. In addition, we restock and service 140 grid bins so that residents can help themselves
out if they’re getting into trouble. People seem to be pretty grateful, particularly giving
the large number of routes we do.
