uh... the other thing is moved some some one thought i had was maybe this is all
laying the groundwork to build reasons to take control of the internet versus
for paper and so quick to starting to tiptoed this line that anne second is
that there's a connection there exactly their eyes and i don't think that's what
he's trying to get
okay watch rights you can count on other people trying to do that because what he
said let's talk about another internet related story microsoft and yahoo are
selling politicians access to you
uh... political campaigns are able to by tailored ads from microsoft and yahoo
that allowed them to target
specific voters online including names zip codes and other registration
information that people are providing when they sign up for these free
email and other services for microsoft and yahoo
and people are being notified that their information can be used for political
targeting
in one sense this is really i'm more technologically advanced version of
what's been happening through the post office right you can send political
flyers they have households based on political donations which our public and
uh... i don't know when specific neighborhoods that are higher income
rise and this is kind of a more advanced version of that right
but when people sign up
for these services they're not being told that political targeting something
they might be the the the targets of
is anything illegal happening here
uh... with no it's not a legal because will that look look look at that right i
mean if we look at that time
microsoft in ya who are saying that they safeguard the privacy of their users and
our sharing personal information is directly with the campaigns
they're also saying that they uh... uh...
are are doing this and they say they're doing this within the law it becomes
subjective whether they're violating their own privacy policy is right we
don't really know alternately what information is being shared
they're saying they're not sharing personally identifiable information we
don't know that bright but but assuming they're not they are not breaking the
law here it's just a question of whether people want to partake in these services
given that they're going to be provided uh... divided providing certain
information to others no google in face book
told pro pablo colors in this investigation
they don't offer this kind of political matching service
it is interesting though louis because
a lot of people very concerned about ad targeting
in in some sense
it would be kind of
a relevant and may be annoying if men browsing the internet keep getting ads
for tampons filling up on the side of their assert results right so then it to
a certain extent i grieve that ad targeting does make for a better
internet surfing experience the problem is uh... when when you get into
politics and political donations of federated kind of getting into a gray
area where how much how private should that information because some people the
way they vote
is very very private but maybe in those cases you should avoid
putting any kind of that information in your profiles but again if it's just
based on your search history recognizable and it's all anonymous in
information new ideas and harmless so
could be out on a what do you think about this one is now david packard dot
