>>Erik: Who inspires you?
>>Scott: My dad inspires me. And he always has. Here`s a guy who struggled growing up
with a learning disability, he has dyslexia and in the 40s and 50s when learning disabilities
werenÕt recognized and they just thought he was slow. And he loved books and he did
it on his own and worked his way through medical school. More than anything it taught him to
be resilient and self motivated. It was difficult for him at first, but he had a difficult family
life growing up and he would escape into books and that was his way out. And on the other
end, I have to go with my mom, too. She`s the one, if it wasn`t for her, thereÕs a
very good chance I would never become a food writer in the first place. We grew up in my
family eating family dinner 6 nights a week, together. And that not only resulted in a
close knit loving family, but also resulted in a lot of really extraordinary family meals,
my mother always cooked very big meals for our whole family. Particularly, Cajun and
Creole cusine, growing up in New Orleans. And it imparted this not, just the love for
food, but the necessity of having good food and good family in your life.
