We're here tonight, to see a show on organic textiles.
Which I think is where the movement is going. Not only organic food now, but also textiles that are organic.
It would be interesting to see if it is as beautiful as linen,
as beautiful as silk, as beautiful as cashmere. That's what I'm looking for.
I'm Kimberly Gardiner, I'm with Lexus Hybrid living.
We are here at Future Fashion with Earth Pledge and Barneys
as part of our Lexus Hybrid living efforts to educate people about
bringing the world to eco, and luxury, and style, and quality, all together.
I'm really excited to see what Yves Saint Laurent does.
Rodarte is a great one. Marc Jacobs, Versace, some of these names that
you think of wonderful icons of style that have been around for so long
and it's so great to see them showcase here tonight and showing something
that will hopefully, I think, excite people. And hopefully have them look at eco
as not just trendy, but as more of a standard.
Francisco Costa here from Calvin Klein,
here supporting this great initiative, supporting the planet.
I wanted to give sort of a... to make it as real as possible.
So we found a great fiber, hemp, we found two different textures
and weights so we made a really beautiful tailored suit very much
representative of the House of Calvin and a great coat.
I hope this creates a lot of more awareness, also for the consumer.
We chose a hemp, linen, silk fabrication all of which are sustainable fibers.
It's kind of a shift that has like a Japanese workwear feel
with big darts and it's a very simple piece.
I feel like 5 years ago, when we were trying to source organic fibers
it was almost impossible. Now, it's relatively easy.
People should be using these fabrics.
I think the response from the caliber of designers
that are participating tonight shows you that the industry is ready to step up.
I think the fashion industry has frankly been behind
the green building industry or the organic food movement
by maybe 10 or 15 or even 20 years and at this point my expectation is
they're going to leap ahead.
