On Saturday 23rd May,
as part of my campaign to win Sweden’s most Swedish job,
I took a walk through Gothenburg, filming, and recording as I went.
From that material, I made three parts of a four-part video.
This is part four, the final part.
You do realise the whole thing is over, don’t you?
The deadline is passed. You can’t affect the result.
Yes, yes, I know. But it was so much fun …
OK. So apart from the fun, what do you think you’ve achieved – I mean if you don’t get the job?
I’ve learned a lot about making videos.
ll the technical things but also the business of composition.
I’m still a rank amateur. But I’ve been learning.
I tried to go one better with each of the videos I made.
Or at least I tried to do something different each time.
To build on what I’d learned making the previous ones and to give a different slant to each one.
There was my talking head video and my out in the countryside video
and my bad weather video and my tourist sightseeing video
and my history video and my interview videos
… and this is my second internal dialogue video!
Beyond that, of course, it’s been very enjoyable to work so creatively and so intensely.
So what about the job. Think you’ll get it?
Well, that goes back to the very first video, doesn’t it?
I don’t really know what S.T.F. are looking for. But …
… if they want a middle-aged, overweight Englishman who
butchers the Swedish language, obviously you’re the right choice!
Yes, but I think they’ll go for a native Swedish speaker,
someone in their twenties, or someone older who looks younger.
At least they’ve got several people to choose among.
I think I may have helped there, raising the bar.
Giving the others a bit of competition, something to aim for, something to beat.
… Or something to avoid perhaps. What did you think of the competition?
Judging by their videos, there are some who have the right personality and attitude.
And clearly there are some who have initiative,
who can write well or take good photos, or use the Internet in creative ways.
I think there were several people who made more than one video who, like me,
got noticeably better as they went along
and I think that bodes well for further development during the coming sixty days.
But it still comes down to what S.T.F. are looking for, doesn’t it.
I suppose we’ll find out eventually.
And now? Now we just wait, I suppose.
What’s left to say? Thank you!
Thank you.
This is John Nixon, The Supercargo signing off ...
… but, I’ll be back!
