Hi, I'm Chef Devaux and today I am going to show you guys how to make something completely
innovative and new. We are going to take a sushi roll and we're going to break it down,
use its components to build something completely new. So it's going to be a sushi roll inspired
food. I was going to call it sushi roll inspired ball, but it's quite a mouthful so if you
guys have a better idea for a name suggestion, just write it in the comment section below
and I'll choose the one with the most up votes. That's probably a bad idea, isn't it? Okay,
don't do anything stupid though, don't write a bunch of swear words and vote that one up,
that would be ridiculous. Anyway, let's get straight into it.
Slice Some Bell Peppers...Now Chop...And Dice! Once you've diced up your bell peppers you
want to move onto your fish. Here I've got some smoked salmon which I have diced up,
and this is some sashimi grade tuna which I am going to dice up now.
Now it helps to have an extremely sharp knife so you don't mush the tuna, it's very easy
to destroy tuna in this case. So this is a very nice sharp knife I'm using here, Kramer
from Zwilling, it's an awesome knife. Miyabi is also great, but I just got this one now
so I thought I would try it out. Okay, so you want to cut it up into cubes
about 1/2 cm by 1/2 cm which is 1/5th inch. Okay, now you take a half of sheet of Nori
and just roll it up, and the idea here is I am going to dice it up into very small bits.
Alright, now I take a big bowl, add a little bit of red bell pepper, a bit of yellow, a
little bit of green, some smoked salmon slices, and some avocado and then you just want to
mix it up slightly. Okay, get a nice and even mix, add 120g of cooked sushi rice.
If you don't know how to make this, a link has just appeared on the top left corner which
will take you to a place to learn how. And you just want to mix it in -- okay, perfect,
and now you add your half sheet of Nori. Okay, so you take some cling film, spread it over
your hand, grab a ball which will be about the size of a sushi roll piece and you just
put it in there. Now you just curl it up around it, hold it from the outside and just turn,
and it should spherify into a sphere. You don't have to do anything, maybe let some
air out and this is more or less how it should look like. Then unravel it and you just simply
take your sphere and you roll it around inside some toasted sesame seeds and it will be a
bit like kind of rolling a sushi roll, more or less. It will have all the taste of a sushi
roll but it won't be in the format that you're used to, which is pretty cool.
Black Sesame Seeds Option Okay, I hope you guys have enjoyed watching
this sushi roll inspired sushi roll, which isn't a roll. I hope we can get a better name
for that. But anyway that aside, what I should be saying in this video is how to make it
with smoked salmon, now that's all great but you can substitute it out with sushi-grade
tuna or sushi-grade salmon or any other sushi-grade fish or you can even make it a vegan option,
it's up to you. And the toppings can also be changed, so instead of white sesame seeds
or black sesame seeds, you could put panko, bread crumbs, or masago fish roe, or you could
even just dip inside some tempura batter and then deep fry it. I mean the possibilities
are endless, I really urge you guys to try it, different combinations, give things a
try. If you find something amazing leave it in the comment section below, I will be sure
to read that and check it out. Anyway, okay so I guess that's the end and
you can just give it a try. Now to eat this, you just pick it up with your hands like you
would if I give you sushi and you dip it into some soy sauce and then eat it.
It's completely different than sushi, it's just...it's like mince meat is to steak, mince
meat is made from steak but it's just not the same thing, and this is made from the
same ingredients as sushi just it's completely different. I urge you guys to give it a go
at home, try substituting different fishes. Put different sushi-grade fishes inside, put
different toppings on the outside. Instead of sesame seeds put whatever you like, and
just go wild. Just put whatever food you like into this and it will be a fun experience
and that's what it's all about, just having fun and making good food so give it a try.
If you want to see more of my videos you can do so right now by clicking on the left, and
if you want to see more videos when they come out, I usually make them around Wednesday,
you can subscribe to my channel on the top left corner of your screen and then you'll
be updated whenever a new video is released. At least that's what they tell me. I really
don't know. Anyway, one last thing, check out my website
by clicking on the bottom, www.MakeSushi.org, I spent a lot of time building it and hopefully
you guys find something useful in there or enjoy reading it.
Thanks for watching, until next week good-bye. END
