I’m really delighted, that first of all, so many of our partners took part to set up
the event so we had such a wide range of stalls for people but also delighted that so many
residents took the opportunity to come along and delighted that so many residents took
the opportunity to give us their views because that’s ultimately what Talking Together
is all about.
I think, what I appreciated from hearing peoples views about issues to do with transport and
particularly about the concessionary bus fares, is you know we recognise that that was a difficult
decision and for some people it has adversely affected them. But I also hope that some people
appreciate that there is some real advantages to the new concessionary fare scheme that
they haven’t had before and they have the opportunity now to travel outside of the Borough
and I hope that people come to see that that is a real benefit.
I also hope that people recognise in a sense that for the council there are allsorts of
difficult judgements and balances to weight up in thinking about how we can prioritise
our resources but it was great to hear people say what they actually felt about it and I
can assure people that we were listening.
We have been running these Talking Together events now for a little while. It was the
first time that we had done a session that had a theme as opposed to most of our events
which are in people’s areas, their neighbourhoods; we were really pleased that so many people
came along to one that was on a theme particularly aimed at older people.
The rest of Talking Together events are for anybody and people can find out where they
are and what time they are at by looking at the council website and going to the connecting
with communities page or you can ring the Town Hall or you can look at the Town Crier
and you can find all the information you need to know within that.
