Well good morning everyone, you're listening to "New Day" with Pastor Alan.
This morning we have a special program for you and it's related to healthcare coverage.
Today on the radio program we have Dayanne. Dayanne, thank you for being with us today.
It's my pleasure, thank you for having me here.
If we could just mention to our audience, what are we promoting this morning?
In Massachusetts, in 2009, there were 32,000 uninsured children.
In order to address this issue, "Health Care For All" launched the
"Got Coverage: Health Coverage for Kids and Teens" campaign.
And one key activity that was part of the campaign was the Phone-a-thon
that we did on September 29th of 2010.
One of the things that "Health Care For All" does is connects children to coverage.
We sign families and children up for health care coverage through our helpline.
They answer our calls in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.
People were encouraged to call on September 29th from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.,
so putting that sense of energy really motivated people to just get the phone and call
and make sure that the next time they would go to the doctor with their child they would be insured.
I learned about the Phone-a-thon at church and the "Health Care For All" staff was there.
People in the community trust the people in church and so
when they promote a certain service, people will believe it.
The had a commercial on the radio so it was really fun so I was like,
I better call this program which is going to help my family a lot.
Last year we had the opportunity to promote the Phone-a-thon. It was great to
have people hearing in on our program and just saying "Oh look,
they're talking about healthcare" you know, and "We need that."
I absolutely would recommend other organizations to work with the ethnic media,
and work with the faith-based community and with partners in general.
Being able to communicate the message just made all the difference in the world.
Typically the helpline enrolls between 50 and 70 children a month.
The Phone-a-thon was an extraordinary experience where, in a day,
we were able to identify and sign up 300 children for health care coverage.
Calling the Phone-a-thon was amazing. You know, I was really pleased
that I could do that in my own language, which is Portuguese.
Knowing that you have coverage for your kids, well, I feel safe.
So having that convenience that you can just pick up a phone and be able to
enroll your child into health coverage and we're able to help so many people by doing that.
That was really effective. That's great, and I think we should do it again.
De nuevo? De nuevo.
Uno ocho cientos dos siete dos quatro dos tres dos.
Gracias Pastor Alan. Bueno. De nada.
