For today’s announcement we will talk about what
it means to demonstrate mastery of a module to
earn credit for the module.
0:00:08.000,0:00:16.066
After you have completed a module…worked the
odd module to 59% or 48 topics of the
0:00:16.066,0:00:24.000
MyPie…even modules to 100% or 81 topics of
the MyPie, then…
0:00:24.000,0:00:31.033
You qualify for a proctored assessment to
demonstrate your mastery of this module. Take a
look at the proctored assessment schedule and
find a time that works for you. If you don’t
0:00:37.066,0:00:43.066
have the schedule handy, you can find it by going
to the Pre-Core Math Program
Information page. In ALEKS, click Resources
and select the Information link.
0:00:50.000,0:00:54.000
There is a schedule for the Little Rock and
Benton campus. We have tried to offer a
0:00:54.000,0:01:04.000
variety of times with a limited budget. I’m sure
you’ll be able to find a time that can work for you.
0:01:04.000,0:01:10.066
Do you know the rules of a proctored
assessment? I hope so, just keep in mind that it
0:01:10.066,0:01:16.000
is a test. So, let’s go take a proctored module
assessment.
0:01:16.000,0:01:25.033
We can see from my MyPie that I’m ready for an
odd module assessment…I have mastery of AT
LEAST 48 topics in the MyPie. So, I am going to
the proctored assessment room take a module
0:01:32.066,0:01:34.033
assessment.
0:01:34.033,0:01:41.000
I place all of my belongs on the table or
bookshelves except for my pencil and picture ID.
0:01:41.000,0:01:48.066
Then I log into my ALEKS account. The proctor
will verify which module I’m assessing and keep
0:01:48.066,0:01:55.000
my picture ID. The ID is kept to be sure I check
out with the proctor when I’ve finished the
0:01:55.033,0:02:03.066
assessment. Next, the proctor starts the
assessment by making the appropriate selection
under
the ASSIGNMENTS tab and entering in the
password…
0:02:07.033,0:02:14.066
And my assessment has begun…ALEKS
reminds me of some important information to
keep in
mind …and I can get started! During the
assessment, the calculator is available to
0:02:21.033,0:02:28.066
me…but I shouldn’t try to going to other websites
or get any other help. It may happen that
0:02:28.066,0:02:35.000
ALEKS gives me a question that I haven’t seen
before when I am taking an odd module
assessment.
0:02:35.000,0:02:42.000
In this case, it’s ok to hit the “I DON”T KNOW”
button. Otherwise, I’ll work the
problem on paper and click the NEXT button
until…
0:02:47.033,0:02:56.000
You have reached the end. By clicking NEXT, you
will be shown a re-configured MyPie…but
0:02:56.000,0:03:03.033
more importantly underneath is the resulting
score of your assessment. Under the grade
0:03:03.033,0:03:10.066
column, it quickly indicates if you scored high
enough to pass the particular module.
0:03:10.066,0:03:18.000
Remember for an odd module, you must score at
least 44% to be successful and for an even
0:03:18.000,0:03:23.000
module, you must score at least 85% to be
successful.
0:03:23.000,0:03:30.066
Here are a few examples of successful
results….if you don’t score the minimum score
to pass the module…
0:03:32.066,0:03:40.000
The results will clearly show you need to retake
the module. This will happen at some point
during the semester…and it’s ok. It just means
you need to complete the module again by
0:03:47.000,0:03:53.033
reworking the topics and re-qualify to re-take the
proctored assessment.
0:03:53.033,0:03:59.000
According to the ‘multiple assessment policy’ in
the syllabus, you must re-work the
module (up to 59% or 100% depending on the
module) before you can re-take the module
0:04:09.000,0:04:15.066
assessment. You must re-quality to increase
your chances at being successful on
your next attempt. You have three attempts
before you need to do something different.
0:04:23.000,0:04:29.066
If you don’t pass on the third attempt, you will
need to meet with the program coordinator to
discuss why you are having trouble passing the
proctored assessment. A plan will developed
0:04:36.066,0:04:44.033
to put on you a successful path. This is the goal
and we will guide you towards that goal.
0:04:44.033
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!
Now, it’s time to get to work and … Do the math!
