On Friday morning, I announced my commitment to preserve Lincoln Park and its unique heritage.
The preservation of Lincoln Park is a chance to celebrate our history and strengthen one
of Chattanooga's most unique neighborhoods. In front of a crowd of residents, I explained
how this important piece of Chattanooga's history was one of the first community development
projects on my radar when I took office.
I was joined by Ms. Hugley, the Neighborhood Association President, and her daughter, Tiffany,
to announce plans for the future of the park.
Erlanger has owned the 5 acres of property that make up Lincoln Park for the last two
decades. Productive conversations over the summer turned into a plan for Erlanger to
donate the land to the City to be used as a community asset - for both the neighborhood
and city as a whole.
The crowd in Lincoln Park last Friday was incredible. Residents came together to share
stories and trade memories. They came together out of a love for the park but, more importantly,
they came together out of a love for eachother and their community. I want to thank the Lincoln
Park residents, Erlanger, and Councilman Moses Freeman for working together toward a common
purpose. Our announcement illustrates what is possible when we make building stronger
neighborhoods a community priority.
