My Xbox One Kinect can't hear me.
Turn off the radio.
The radio isn't on. I'm trying to game.
Make sure all the other background sources of noise are turned off.
It isn't like the Kinect can't hear me because other people are too loud.
Are you loud enough?
I don't have laryngitis, and I'm not whispering my commands.
Voice commands don't work with a headset.
I'm not using a headset and wondering why the Kinect isn't responding. I only use the
Kinect.
I've heard of the Xbox One Kinect not recognizing people because they are too far away.
It can't seem to hear me if I'm standing right next to it.
Make sure it has its eyes on you.
You mean make sure it faces me instead of the wall. I'd understand if that's why it
didn't recognize me because it couldn't see me, but hearing me wouldn't be nearly as much
of an issue if that were the case.
Make sure the Kinect is actually on. If it is dead or off or failing to relay info to
the Xbox One, it won't relay your commands to the console.
The logo on the front of the sensor is on.
That's why they have that light up sensor. Have you tried resetting the Kinect sensor
connection?
I don't know how to do that.
A quick way to see if the Kinect is recognized by the console is to go settings, use Kinect
sensor to chat. And when you're in those screens, go to settings, all settings, Kinect and devices,
Kinect, Kinect on.
I have no idea how to fix that.
You can turn it off, all the way off, unplug the power cable.
You're telling me to do a hard reboot.
After it is unplugged from the wall, unplug the Kinect from the console. Plug in the power
cable, start it up, go to menu, settings, Kinect, then plug in the sensor.
It will go through the brand new set up.
At the very least, it will try to recognize the sensor, and if it can't recognize the
sensor, it certainly won't hear you.
I think the Xbox One can recognize the Kinect.
I've also heard of the Xbox One having its peripherals cycle on and off because it has
poor power regulation.
What else can I try?
If the Kinect can't hear you but can see you, make sure there isn't something covering the
microphone on it, so to speak.
I can't see anything like that.
You could send it back for a new one if under warranty or send it back for repair.
It isn't under warranty anymore.
Another option you can try is updating the software.
Updating and rebooting is standard tech support for Microsoft.
I mean the software for the Kinect. After all, it won't update the Kinect if the device
was unplugged if you were rebooting after the last update.
So how do you update that particular device?
Reboot the console. Connect the Kinect, go to menu where Kinect on is available, and
it will tell you if the thing is updating.
It didn't say anything was updating last time.
Then the Kinect sensor is up to date.
Then you do what you do when all else fails, and call for service.
