My name's Seann McWhorter, I'm the agency principal with Insure Right Insurance Agency,
located in Lehi, Utah. We're here to talk about insurance ins and outs, and specifically
how to get car insurance after a DUI or DWI. What is a DUI or a DWI? If you need to ask--driving
while intoxicated, or driving under the influence of alcohol. Hopefully you had insurance to
begin with, otherwise you'd be getting an extra ticket along with your DUI. However,
if you've received a DUI and you need to go out and shop your insurance, many times if
you were with a preferred insurance company and your insurance company finds out that
you have been given a DWI ticket, they will non-renew your policy. They will cancel your
policy. And you will be required to go out and get it somewhere else. Generally that
puts you into a high risk marked tier. And so you're going to have to contact an insurance
agency that has access to companies that provide coverage for higher risk drivers. And really
the process, once you find that person, the process is really no different than getting
insurance anywhere else. That insurance agent will gather your personal information, including
your driver's license number, and he will run a motor vehicle report, which will show
that DUI on your driving record, and that information will be disclosed for the insurance
company, and a rate will be derived based on that information.
