I am Lyu Chen, I am now a year 4 PhD. Before coming to CUHK, I obtained a undergraduate
degree in Fudan University (Broadcast Television News). I then worked in the field of media for four years.
Time flies, it has been four years in the blink of an eye.
In these four years, I feel like I rediscovered myself, my interests and potentials.
I now better understand myself. I really found out what interests me and what I can do,
especially public relations field, as I had relevant working experience in the past.
Knowing that I had been taking the theories in to practice, I felt very excited and delighted at the start.
I am really thankful that I found my interest in academic research.
And I found the scope of studies which I am really interested in.
The thesis's theme is public relations, I was working on crisis communication strategies in particular.
This thesis compared how Taiwan and Hong Kong organisations used different strategies under the same crisis,
and how political system and media environment affected them choosing their strategies.
[Music] A few days ago, I got a proof for my PR review journal.
Usually in a proof, you will find the journal title, the format is the sane as any formal journal article publication.

When I got my proof in hand, I felt pretty amazed. Since I remember few years ago when I was applying for M.Phil program, I was in the National Library of China, I read the same journal. That was the first journal I read regarding public relations.
At that time, such foreign language journals are B+ in the library. In other words, if you want to make photocopies, you have to write a note to the librarian, he or she would help you to do the photocopying.
when I got the proof. Though happiness and sufferings are inseparable, you might contribute
a lot and be overworked, but on the day when I realised that my work is shown, I think
it worths the hard work. CUHK's environment is very good, we have an independent hill,
which is suitable for studying. It is separated from the city centre or busy areas. On one
hand, it offers students a better study environment. On the other hand, maybe one may feel like
having a spiritual practice. I think it is not a long term lifestyle. Few years later,
my lifestyle would definitely be different, so I do cherish my stay here. Here comes my
future plan. Time goes by really quickly, it is time for me to finish my final thesis.
I am quite sure that I will continue to work on research projects, particularly in the
field of public relations and crisis communication. As I mentioned before, I am pretty lucky to
have found the field of studies which I am interested in, I think I will continue working
on this aspect.
