Hi, I'm Gretchen Bleiler, U.S. Olympic Snowboarder, and today I'll
be leading you through a meditation called Primordial Sound Meditation.
Meditation is a practice that you can use to start your day, to end your day or really whenever you
feel like you need a moment to center yourself.
The great part about Primordial Sound Meditation is it's all about being comfortable,
so I like to put a blanket underneath my feet.
If you feel like you might be getting a little bit cold, using a blanket to cover up.
The idea is that you're comfortable so that you can bring your awareness inward instead
of focusing on how your body is feeling.
The mantra that we'll use today is "So Hum"
which is a universal mantra that corresponds with our breath. A mantra is a
sound that doesn't really have a particular meaning to it. But it's a sound that is
used to bring our attention inward. And so it'ss sort of like hearing a song in your
head that's repeating over and over again. So we'll begin by sitting comfortably with
our eyes closed and first just witnessing our breath. Observing the inflow and the outflow
without attempting to control or alter it in any way. Next, we'll then incorporate
the repetition of our "So Hum" mantra. So we'll say it silently in our minds:
"So" on the inhale and "Hum" on the exhale.
At the end of your meditation, when you've decided to stop the repetition of your "So Hum"
mantra, always be sure to leave a minute or two to sit quietly with your eyes
closed to let the meditation settle in.
