Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute.
This summer, many of the students in the Civil Engineering Scholarship Program are receiving
hands-on training by working for the Transportation Cabinet.
We recently caught up with Matt Caudill and Talya Estes.
Matt is from Edmonson County and is entering his second year in the Scholarship Program.
Matt's working in Bowling Green.
Voice of Matt Caudill: Coming in you have a better understanding of what exactly Civil
Engineers do than most students going into it. Just from working over the summer and
being around the engineers -- and seeing the problems they deal with.
Talya's from Louisville, and is a senior this year. She's working in Lexington.
Voice of Talya Estes: I've been a summer employee three years now. I worked in Louisville in
Right-of-Way and I've worked in Construction in Lexington for two summers. I think the
summer employment component of the scholarship is a great opportunity. It gives students
a chance to get out into the field and see what engineering's really about. It also gives
them an opportunity with financials -- it gives them money for school. And gives them
a job post graduation.
