0:03 Martha Stewart's Countdown to Christmas 0:06 We are off to the Jones family farm,
where the Jones have traditionally grown their Christmas trees
0:13 For everybody in this area. 0:14 Jones Family Farms sign
0:16 This is like a rich and refined leather seat, it's like sitting in a living room.
0:20 Or in a very fancy sports car. That's true, right?
0:23 Oh this is a beautiful farm. Look at the numbers of Christmas trees.
0:28 Hey, Jamie! How are you? Nice to be here. 0:31 Wonderful to have you again. It's a perfect
day to cut down a tree. 0:35 And what do you have?
0:37 I saw a lot of white pines, oh there they are, they're very beautiful.
0:40 That's the local tree? Yes. And what else?
0:42 We have some Douglas Fir, Balsam Fir, Frasier Fir, and a few White Fir.
0:47 Oh, so quite a few choices. 0:49 Well we're standing next to some beautiful
Colorado Blue Spruce right here. 0:52 Now I was always told, don't shake hands
with a Blue Spruce. 0:56 They are a little prickly, aren't they?
1:00 They are, but they have nice, stiff branching. 1:02 They are so gorgeous. Perfect shape.
1:04 Do the spruce come much taller than this? 1:06 We have them right up to 10 to 12 feet
tall. 1:09 Yeah, we want two tall trees. I think
we can help you out. 1:13 Now why are some Blue Spruces bluer than
others? 1:16 Well they're just kinda like us: some
people have blonde hair or blue eyes, or darker hair,
1:21 They're just, it's just genetic. 1:25 Let's see, this is a fir tree. Yes, this
is a Douglas Fir tree. Oh okay, that's a pretty tree.
1:29 They're very popular, one of the nicest things about these trees is the aroma.
1:32 You break a few needles and you get that citrusy smell. Oh yes, that's nice.
1:36 One of the popular things, and they also hold their needles real well.
1:39 So this will last how long in water? 1:42 We'd like to think all of our trees will
last at least six weeks. If you take care of it right,
1:45 You take it home, you put a fresh cut, you put it in a stand with water,
1:48 And you don't let it run out of water. 1:49 Very beautiful. Nice shape. What do you
think? This is too small. 1:54 I think bigger is better. Are you going
towards the White Pines? I am too. 1:58 They do hold their needles very well,
they're a very full tree, so a lot of people 2:02 Do like white or a lot of lighter ornaments
for 'em, or maybe just a lot of lights on them. Tinsel.
2:07 Tinsel. We also like them, they're the native tree that grows naturally around here,
2:11 So they do grow well here. 2:13 I think we're going to have a different-looking
tree this year, Kevin. 2:17 So why don't you crawl under there and
start sawing? Is that how it works? 2:20 Yep, it's cut your own.
2:23 See, you're halfway through! I know, I'm strong!
2:25 Tell me when it's gonna fall. 2:27 Ready? Ready! Timber!
2:33 Oh, what a beautiful cut, didn't he do a great job? I'm very impressed.
2:36 We're very talented at Martha Stewart Living. Yes we are.
2:45 So, now to protect the car, a dropcloth. Right.
2:51 That's good. So now, make sure when you're loading the tree onto your car,
2:55 That you put the trunk facing forward. The wind is coming this way, and you want
it to be natural 3:01 On the tree. Here comes the other one.
3:06 Oh good, so there. That's very secure. 3:10 So we have two big things of garlands
and some wreathes. Oh those are beautiful. 3:15 There we go. They can go right on top,
too. Pretty, right? 3:21 And look how much can fit into the back
of a Traverse. Very nice. 3:26 Thanks very much, Jamie. Thanks, Will.
