Akif Acar, 76, says that timber isn't like it used to be,
and they use bricks nowadavs.
But the big earthquake of 1944 didn't destroy these wooden houses.
Because wood is flexible. Concrete isn't.
Akif Acar is a master craftsman
who knows how to make the best use of the materials to hand.
Pine cones have been placed in the wall cavities of some houses
to provide heat and sound insulation.
The village of Dörtdivan-Aşağısayık where the famous Köroğlu
known as a wandering minstrel and Turkey's Robin Hood was born.
At a time, this village was surrounded by forests.
All that survives now
are the charred timbers of a few houses.
The house said to be Köroğlu's already demolished!
Yet, another house was being built to replace it.
But they haven't succeeded yet
in drying up Köroğlu's spring.
Even the ducks seem to be quacking in protest!
