Welcome to Advantage Sign Supply's application resource center. These videos are intended
to help Advantage customers with product information and technical tips on the products and services
we provide. In this video we will be showing the basics
of loading media and blades for the Graphtec FC8600 friction fed plotter.
To start, load your media from the back of the plotter toward the front and align the
pinch rollers evenly across the width of the media.
There are labels on the front and back of the plotter showing where the pinch rollers
may be placed. For print-to-cut jobs, align the registration
marks just inside the brackets of the pinch rollers.
This will keep the printed media aligned straight in the plotter.
After lowering the pinch rollers, use the position keys on the control panel to move
the blade inside the box of the first registration mark.
At this time, you will need to check the strength of your pinch rollers.
When viewing the plotter from the back, you will see a lever on each pinch roller with
three settings: strong, medium, and low. The pinch roller on the very left only has
two settings: medium and strong. There is a label on the top of the plotter
that also shows these settings. Return to the control panel on the front of
the plotter and select 2 for ROLL-2 REAR SET. The plotter will then read the position of
the pinch rollers and return to the lower right corner.
To replace the blade, hold the blade holder with the colored shoe at the bottom.
Turn the top dial counter-clockwise to retract the blade into the blade holder.
Turn the colored shoe clocks and remove the main part of the blade holder.
Remove the blade from the brass container. Take a new blade and place, with the blade
down, into the brass container. Screw the colored shoe back on to the main
blade holder. Screw the top of the blade holder clockwise
to expose just enough of the tip of the blade for the thickness of the media that you are
cutting. Set the blade holder in tool position 1, which
will be the furthest from you, with the lip on the blade holder just above the metal bracket
on the carriage. Screw the plastic bracket just above the lip
of the blade holder to secure it to the carriage. For perforated cutting, you may want to move
the blade holder to tool position 3 so the blade isn't damaged on the cutting strip.
