Hey it's Thomas from BuyStraightRazors.co so today I'm going to be shaving my beard
uh, with the Dovo shavette, red insert with the Merkur, um, razor blades. I realized I shaved
my head before with the um... red insert but I never actually shaved my beard on camera
with it so I'd figured, I'd um,
finish off kinda, the video with all of the inserts so now I'll have all videos of me
shaving my head and my beard with the Dovo shavette red insert. So I'm going to lather
up and then I'll start shaving.
So if you've never uh, seen, um, the red insert before uh, basically it takes a, a DE blade
that's been snapped in half. They do sell um, blades for it that come with, it's just
one side however most of the time you'll have to snap it in half and also a nice thing about
the red insert is the blades are actually really cheap. It's probably one of the cheapest blades you
can buy out there for any type of razor if not the cheapest. If you buy in uh... bulk,
I've done the calculations and like, it came out to like four cents a blade and then um...
those are really cheap ones, so even if you can only get one shave out of it that's still
pretty cheap and more commonly, you can even, it's actually pretty common to be able to
find them for twenty-five cents a blade anywhere for twenty-fives cents a blade and you can
also find more expensive ones at forty cents per blade so it just kind of depends on your
preference.
Uh, a disadvantage of it is it's kind of shorter than the black, or blades for the black insert
or the green insert, so it takes more passes to cover your face. The upside to that is
it's a little more maneuverable so you don't have to worry about that extra amount of blade
right there cutting your face. So it just depends, it mi-might be a good reazor to start
off with learning how to just because it's a little bit more easier to learn and then
um... I, uh, my buddy, I told him about the shavette he actually bought it. I told him
I like the black insert the best and so he bought the black insert and then I guess he
had trouble shaving his upper lip with the blades for the black insert and he was getting
irritation up there so he went ahead and um, got the red insert and he shaves with the red insert
so it kind of depends on what you like.
The red insert is actually how I first got started to wet shaving.
I didn't feel like investing the full amount for a straight razor, so I figured I would
see if I actually liked, you know like lathering up with a badger hair brush and just the style
of shaving before I'd go all in and buy a strop.
and a straight razor. Oh *** I just *** up my sideburns a little bit.
Obviously, I can't multi-task very well
But after I bought the shavette and I had been shaving with it for a little bit I decided
I liked it and some people say there is a little bit of a change when you go from using
a shavette to a straight razor and there is a little bit of a change but there's not as
much of a change as I was led to believe there was going to be.
Personally, I think there's more of a uh, more of a difference switching between a shavette
and the, the feather razor than there is a shavette and a straight razor.
I think my camera might have turned off right when I was shaving my mustache, so you might
have missed that, but I'll get the, going, on my second pass on camera.
