so the other day how we covered a feud between Rachel Matt Allen Rampal
poll had plagiarized three or four lines from the Wikipedia entry on the movie
Gatica
in his speech to Liberty University racial matter I found out about this did
a report on it
but now with those review who
saw the segment I did last time on this I said
look I don't really agree with Rachel because but
she thought it was this like a really big deal and
I also said that he prefaced his comments
in that speech by saying in the movie Gatica
and then he went on to almost copy berg Batum you know three or four lines from
the Wikipedia page in and say that
and then we learned that Rand Paul did the same thing in a different speech
with another Wikipedia article and another movie
and honestly I still didn't think it was that big a deal because as I said
but when I think a plagiarism what I think I love
is in academic paper or a book
where you steal somebody's up ideas and their words verbatim and you don't
you know attributed to them so my overall
but take away from the last story on this was should be absent from the
Wikipedia entry on this
yes he shoulda said that shania had said possibly
quote and then went on to say and by the way we got a laugh line if you mention
Wikipedia so
yes you should and all those things but in my final conclusion I said it's not
really that big a deal cuz whatever manner so many other important things to
talk about
the fact Rampal want to get rid of the EPA and the FDA
any want to dismantle the entire federal government they were the IRS so we can
collect taxes and all that stuff well
now we learned that my feeling was totally and utterly misplaced
because I naively thought well I'll Rampal
we did this a couple times a Wikipedia big what but that's not the case
in fact he didn't just do it a couple times a week a PDF he did
actual plagiarism actual plagiarism multiple times
so in an op-ed article hero for the washington times in September about
mandatory minimum prison sentences
he copied language from an essay that had previously run
in the week magazine just a couple weeks earlier
so that article was written by Dan steward and included this sentence quote
America now jails a higher percentage a bit citizens than any other country
including China and Iran
at the staggering cost at eighty billion dollars a year
but so that was from September 14th
and on September 20th Rand Paul wrote quote America now tells a higher
percentage of its citizens than any other country including China and Iran
at the staggering cost is $80 billion dollars per year now
the article also mentions a case involving a florida man John Horner who
was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years
for selling painkillers quote John will be 72 years old by the time he is
released
and his three young children will have grown-up
without him in stewart's version quote
you'll be 72 by the time he is released and his three young children
well have grown up without him so
in this is a a clear example above plagiarism
and I wanna be a clear here it is different when you're
talking in a speech worse is when you know you're writing something down in
publishing
its worst if you're writing it down and publishing it but that's not that's not
it
I haven't even got to the big whopper yet bus speeds
Andrew Kaczynski found that Paul had copied
get this 1,309 18 words
1,318 words from a 2003 case study by the Heritage Foundation
without making it clear that he had not or third
the material and this is in his book
in a book on Rand Paul's and on Monday kaczynski pointed out that some other
speech transcripts
have been scrubbed from Rand Paul's Senate web sites
but so he's going back and changing all the speeches that
he you know played Russian Wikipedia this year that and his bodyguard be over
a thousand words from a case study by I think tank
now look I know a lot to you guys disagree with me from the beginning
and thought that the Wikipedia thing that was a big deal
and to be honest I still don't think that that's a big deal
but what is a big deal is this
is for plagiarizing for in article you write
and plagiarizing for all book you right
because now it's no longer like hey it's no big deal for a reason XY or Z
you know just a couple I did you somewhat attributed in yeah at it now
no no there's no defending this this is the actual
hardcore real plagiarism and also Rand Paul has gone back
and in in his book in a articles he's written
now his step he's like firing members of the staff and also
forcing them to go back in there in like do a resurgence in footnotes pro a
footnote roller thing that he did not review
yeah man but too little too late it this should affect your political career
this is unacceptable I collect the Wikipedia slide
but this is serious and there should be consequences for it
