There's a lot to work on even in one scene of a story, and so far I've got Hansel and
Gretel in their woods and their father is like walking away from them in the woods,
he might even be behind a tree which would make him even farther away from them. So he's
like hidden partly by the tree. But what would make this really scary is to realize what's
looming ahead of them, which we know, is the witch. And the witch, I thought, would be
good, red is a color of danger, so I found some red paper and I cut out something that
I though looked kind of like a witch. Here's her chin, her nose, and then her hat. So I've
got my witch here, but the witch has to be in the forest. Without any trees around her,
this isn't still cohering, so we have to somehow fit the forest back so she's sort of like
lurking behind the trees and she's like super big because she's such a threat. I mean she
wants to gobble these guys right up. So I've put her sort of behind the trees there. And
to make her a little bit more, I'm going to give her an eye, nobody else has eyes, but
this gives her that little bit more menace. So I've got the menace, I've got the sadness,
and the last thing I'm going to do is say, "Well, this is on white paper, and white,
to us, is light".
