It's become the most embattled piece of land in Ravalli County. And the peace and quiet
of this 5-hundred acre parcel north of Stevensville Monday evening was a dramatic contrast to
the showdown underway just over the hill at Lone Rock School. \
\ That's where county commissioners faced a
big crowd on the attack against the proposal to place over 6-hundred single family homes
and condos on the site. \ \
Owner Angela Morton braved the mostly hostile crowd to call the project a "thoughtful development",
with people supporting the idea of affordable homes for the northern Bitterroot...\
\ "Some of these folks could not be here today,
but they wanted to let you know that they wholeheartedly support this project and what
it will do for their families in this valley."\ \
But the woman who's family settled and originally owned the land broke into tears of fury, incensed
that the county would even consider the idea\'85\ \
"My name is Mary Houtchens-Ross. I am the only sibling here of the kids of the family
to be speaking up against this bull____, that y'all are trying to shove through."\
EDIT\ It's just so stupid. I can not believe you
guys are just going to pass this through and make all this money! And that's all it's about.
Just greed."\ \
Commissioners will start deliberations on Monday.\
