Transforming the Army footprint in Europe. Specialist Lyndsey Farmer has the story from
Sembach, Germany. [Farmer] As the new fiscal year begins,
so do changes for Sembach Air Base. October 1st marks the beginning of the Army's
command of the new kaserne. Over the next couple of years, the Army has
huge plans for the former air base, but today change has come to the fire station.
Today is a great day. We actually picked up the Sembach fire station
which was under the jurisdiction of the Air Force, Ramstein.
It was tremendous work. [Farmer] The work continues for the US Army
Garrison Kaiserslautern. This is the Army's first step
in assuming responsibility for Sembach and closing down other bases within Germany,
consolidating into a logistical hub and an enduring hub.
