Police have just come and arrested your son or daughter. Now they’re detained in the
juvenile hall and you don’t know what to do. My name is Ryan McGlinn. I’m a criminal
defense attorney in San Diego, California who handles juvenile law. Here is what you
need to do. First off, you need to call an attorney right away. It is very important
that an attorney gets down to see your son or daughter in the juvenile hall to discuss
the case with them. It is very important for parents to realize that there is no bail.
You cannot bail your child out of juvenile hall. They will be detained in the juvenile
hall and brought to court within 72 court hours. It’s important for an attorney to
see your son or daughter right away because an attorney needs to sit down and talk with
your child to understand the facts of what happened, to determine what investigation
needs to be done, right away. It is also critically important, given the fact that your son or
daughter will be in court in a matter of days, to determine a plan in order to best ensure
that your son or daughter returns back home once your child is brought to court. That
can involve obtaining records from your school. That can involve obtaining psychological evaluations.
There are a number of things that can be done in order to best position your child to be
returned back home at that first court hearing. I can’t stress enough the importance of
you calling an experienced private attorney right away to give your child the best chance
possible to get out of juvenile hall at the first court hearing. If your child is not
let out the first court hearing, they can remain in juvenile hall for several weeks
longer. Here’s what you need to do: call me. I handle these cases every day. My phone
number is 619-291-5115. My name is Ryan McGlinn. Thank you for joining me.
