Hello everyone, welcome to speed calculations made easy.
In this presentation I will show you the speed formula and tell you how easy it is to use
in everyday situations. Speed is all around us.
We think of speed every time we think of a car moving, when we think of sports, or when
we are standing outside on a windy day. But how do we know really, how fast something
is going? To answer that question we use the formula
v = d/t; v stands for our speed, d is for the distance the object moves, t is the amount
of time it took for the object to travel. To use this formula in an example let's
say that a racecar driver travels 160 miles in 45 minutes or 0.75 hours.
First thing we need to do is write down the information that we know. We know the racecar
driver went 160 miles. We also know that it took him 0.75 hours to do so.
The second step is to take the information that we know from our problem and to plug
it into our formula. The next step we do is we do our math calculation.
In this case we are going to take 160 divided by 0.75 and that equals 213.
To finish our calculation we simply place the units from our problem behind our calculated
answer. In this case we have miles per hour. Now you have the confidence to do speed calculations
on your own. Good luck.
