I just had my first baby last year and the memories are so fresh in my mind. That's
why this next story took my breath away. Danielle Beverly was 36 weeks pregnant when she learned
she had breast cancer--for the third time. Can you imagine? Well, you know what, not
only did she survive to mother her child, but as the wife of a former NFL player, she's
leveraging her position to help other breast cancer patients ... in so many ways.
it was my first child and we were just gearing up for it, get the nursery ready, just totally
embracing everything about it we were loving every bit of it. Then I found a lump.
Finding out you have cancer when you're pregnant is probably one of the scariest things
I think anybody can ever go through in their life.
I just kind of swallowed and the tears started flowing, then I had to find a way to call
my husband and tell him My husband actually changed my bandages multiple
times before I even looked at my reconstruction because I didn't want to look at it.
Throughout this whole process we knew we were blessed with a circle of support with our
family, our friends, the community. I was playing with the Falcons at that time, so
I had a support system there. We met individuals that didn't have that.
The Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation provides support emotionally, financially, physically
for patients who are undergoing breast cancer and their entire families, put food on their
tables, we help families get to and from treatment. it made me understand that you know what,
what I'm dealing with really wasn't that much
I've been with my daughter almost 5 years and I look at her and I see life and I see
a future and hope and just this determination I didn't take the woe is me, it was okay
ya know, worrying about what the future holds, it kind of that get busy living or get busy
dying.. and in my mindset death is not an option.
