jeff marked lady u_s_ senator the junior senator from organ on the line was
marked wait outside that governs as website
center markley great to have you back on our program paul thank you so much as
one of only with his you are one of the genuine progressive voices in the united
states and i just want to tell you how much i honor that and and respect that
and how pleased i am that that u
represent in in a way you represent i still on a home in in oregon so
uh... i guess to represent me even though i'm with the near d_c_ most of
the time
and and where just so glad to have you with the with us tell us about the the
jobs bill that uh... president obama has has
if you put forward that the republicans are obstructing and what can we do about
jobs in the united states well they they that key piece of
of having nine
there's more people pieces related to
infrastructure
related to putting folks who are back to work with uh...
our public sector around the country
the key is that
right now
mitch mcconnell
abuse of the filibuster
is meaning that we can't get
dialogue in the citizens out of the u_s_ senate the senator nunn operatives
elicited body
explain next january
i'm going to be immersing turn this body can change the rules in the senate
to end the filibuster
yes well not completely in it
but to change it with parking filibuster
how are you have to ways to shut it down
right now yes uh... one senator jackson you end up
with uh... basically you have to come to re-ask is super majority before
but in the in this situation talking philosophy of a second path where the
moment somebody isn't available to speak to the bill you go to a final vote
now the minority who wants to block the process has to be visible for the
american public
and dust for example moves closer
my republican colleagues with their day and night
trying to defend uh... bass secret also
of money
uh... we would soon get a public reaction that allows the passive
yeah i think you're absolutely right
drivers u_s_ senator jeff markley of organ
and uh... senator the farm bill tell me about this new you you played a role in
this
yes uh... yes i i certainly deserve several pieces in there including the he
said uh... kit
win partnership with *** lugar
that is related to uh... the construction industry is suitable for
you have in the farm bill all but it is a piece that is for rule a trickle cost
off low-cost loans for energy-saving retrofit some both commercial buildings
and homes
considered the single most cost effective way
to create living wage jobs
but extraordinary
and and and it's now in law
it's not a work as a farm bill hasn't passed through the house
uninfected
oregon right now we have
grasslands are burning
before serb rain we have an area the size of rhode island the largest
basically the largest fire it in a century
and the emergency provisions that would normally helped the ranchers
on those who want for slander sign up
they're not authorize because the house
has impacted on the farm bill
this is uh...
in intentional thing by the house republicans
this is part of their
planted
blow off anything that oklahoma does its good anything that would show momentum
that
the finally things are getting down to the america back on track
it sold
acceptable
it's how how exciting
folks dot com to bc as elected representatives say are cool
is to prevent problem solving at all costs
it uh...
it's just it's just wrong and there has to be a push back the american public
this group of uh... congressman
and senators who met uh...
on the night that brock obama was inaugurated at the caucus room
restaurant which was a reporter from
for the reason i used to live a d_n_a_ eight st
and uh... i was at the inn nine and uh...
basically swarup a lot of to block anything that president obama wanted to
do for the next four years and they've they've kept that commitment and paul i
was a member of that of that meeting it's just extraordinary what are your
thoughts on that on the convention house again how's that goal
what's what's this incidents going so well
it's going to almost all bala spoke to
our hearts across america bubbling up the challenges that
for filling went through her husband's though is
in such a different background than mommies
lengthy understand firsthand the challenges of a working family in
america
when she's sad
our vision
is that when it gets through the door of opportunity
you'd also have a chat back to reach back you fold it open for others to go
through
bad news
what america is that's why so many of us are in
in public life
we want to see
all family succeed
we are not about democratic right we're not about the one percent
richer and more powerful and controlling more the reserves were
every family to succeed
and that is just a fundamental difference of this was so apparent
and last night
up bill clinton
took apart the republican analysis can you get it
fashion i thought
wasn't full of hate wasn't full cynicism
party was just uh...
it was just saying
these are the facts the way they work and i think it is
of laying out the case was laid down like a sissy assumes she at the sushi
chef with a smile on his face the acid at its export most of these
is just a reminder list at the republican national convention seemed
like
most of the speeches were
about me
you know about the about the individual speaker they were telling their own
stories almost like a broad fishing for twenty sixteen
um... there was very little discussion of mit romney and why he should be
president and virtually no discussion of policy other than trashing president
obama here at the democratic convention in a it seems to me that every single
speaker has been talking about real
policy
programs things that the obama administration stunned and fully
embracing our president of united states do you have you noticed that difference
or em i just
well you know is my bio i have and what i've
really noticed is that
were sold comparable
at this convention
arguing for the policies with
because we've been given them and its analysis
but are republican
folks at their convention
they were trying to just basically assert
the opposite
of the truth in order to make their case because they didn't
didn't have this
the that's the story right is like dislike them on medicare
where republicans are always talking about efficiency
democrats came in and said there are a bunch of medicaid advantage plans that
are performing
there are ones that are in those are purporting to be held accountable
and the savings is going to be
invested in other aspects of medicare
for the benefit of our seniors
the republicans came in and said well
valued you'd get took the money we put it so well-spoken
just actually factually
yeah it's it's amazing the uh... fact checkers were so so busy during the
republican convention cuz they were so many lies flying around
it hasn't been so much at the democratic event
or full employment
does for folks who are one of the truth there you go
senator jeff markley
a boolean brilliantly representing the great state of oregon
centre thank you for being with us
you're so welcome thank you
