How's it going SpaceChurch?
um, It's your friendly neighborhood SpaceDevil here. Uh, Today
I am probably going to be hurting myself for your amusement.
um I have here this
wonderful bottle... of- there we go-
bols uh, I believe the Dutch pronunciation: is
yeh-Nav-veer. yen-a-ver
yen- its Dutch- its Dutch gin.
Um, as you know
well some you might not know- if you don't know
uh, gin is the SpaceDevil's patron
alcohol because gin is an evil spirit I'm an evil spirit.
Works. Um, but this is somethin' special
because this isn't just
gin, its Dutch gin. Um, little bit about Dutch gin:
Dutch gin actually came before
uh, what we think of as gin- it was it was made before
the English kind of stole it from the Dutch
um and so yeah this
this particular company, Bols, has been in
at Amsterdam since 1575. Um,
so yeah I I'm kind of expecting this to be terrible to
perfectly honest I mean it's gin but- at-
on the other hand you know it might be
that gin is just yet another thing that the English have just completely ruined, I mean
they they can't cook we all know that the English can't cook
um, so... what's
to say that they can distill? So yeah.
Um, this this gin... is technically whiskey.
um, let me let me read you the back of the bottle:
Bols aged genevere- I'm going with genevere, it's
a slaughtering of the pronunciation but its
good enough- Bols aged genevere is an authentic genevere blended
to perfection according to the original nineteenth century recipe from Lucas Bols
master distiller in Amsterdam since ninet- since
1575, not 1975. That would be silly.
The smooth and malty flavor of Bols barrel
aged genevere- this stuff has been aged in in oak for 18- at least 18 months
the smooth and malty flavor of Bols barrel-aged genevere
comes from using over 50% maltwine-
that makes a whiskey for those of you keeping score at home- which is made from
long fermented rye, corn, and wheat
triple distilled in copper pot stills. Whiskey.
It is then infused
with a distillate of carefully selected botanicals
to create genevere (genevere)
Bols barrel-aged genevere is aged for at least 18 months in
oak casks from the French... eehh
one of those French-y word. it's a French region-
uh, Ich spreche Deutsch. These barrels insure a pale golden color, a rich boquet of
oaky notes and impart a light, sweet flavor on the genevere.
Bols barrel-aged genevere is bottled in traditional clay jugs as it has been
done since 1664.
It can be enjoyed chilled or on the rocks but also adds flavor to many whisky
or any cocktails.
check it out, its... clay
clay is the word I'm looking for... I could not think for a minute
so yeah, um, I already top popped the uh
the plastic that came around this off
It had a little tag that said gene, uh, barrel-aged on it
uh, it's always really frustrating for me so I just I did it before I started the video
um, 'cause you're here to see me hurt myself not
uh, just frustrate myself so
yeah I'm- I'm gonna open this now for the- the first time
*pop*
*exhale* This...
smells like a mistake. Yeah.
kay, I'm- I'm not gonna lie it- it smells like a mistake.
*sigh*
It's... I mean it's not even really...
gin... smelling... it... smells like really, really cheap Scotch.
which, Scotch is another thing I can't stop stomach so I'm-
I'm... getting... doubly... worried here
eeehhh... but uh,
I'm gonna go to it... okay
its... an interesting color uh my
Myrtle Beach shot glass from when I was, was down in
Myrtle over the summer um
there we go It focused on kind of the-
It can't decide where it wants to focus
but yeah its kinda pale yellow
kinda looks like ***.
I- I don't know if it will show up on the video yeah it
sticks to the class like good ***
so that's one encouraging sign, I guess.
but, you know I'm just I'm delaying the inevitable here...
we all know you
came here to watch me shoot this and
dammit I'm going to.
Hmm.
you know that's...
that's really not bad. Um... it's
it's more Scotch-y than
than gin. I mean I'm no-I'm not really a Scotch fan but it's got those...
those peaty notes, uh, which is
weird because it doesn't say anything about peat on the bottle.
Um, but.. yeah I mean if- if someone was to just hand me a shot of that
and say here drink this...
I... don't... know... if-
no, I just I straight up
wouldn't know that someone had just given me something that
was essentially gin. Um,
I would probably think it was some kinda weird scotch.
Uh, you know maybe like a, uh, like Drambuie or something you know, that's not just
straight Scotch but it's like a
spiced Scotch. Uh, that's that's kind of
pretty much the effect, um...
...yeah.
Um, it's
it's not near so bad as
I was expecting so that's
kind of... kind of pleasantly surprising
Um... I
I don't know whether to call an evil spirit or not. Um...
...I don't think so.
I think I could drink this an... and be happy and
you know it not be gin I think you all probably
if you don't dislike the taste scotch you could
drink it. So yeah that's
me kind of making an *** of myself. Alright
SpaceDevil signing off.
