Ah, Spring Break! What's there not to love about this time of year? Whether you're out
on the beach soaking up the sun and staying out of trouble or you're on a stage being
the center of attention at your third wet t-shirt contest, the fun is endless.
Aside from it being one giant excuse to behave promiscuously, wear skimpy bathing suits and
wash all your troubles away with liquor, there's a lot more that goes along with Spring Break.
From the best days to travel to the best (or worst) locations or even alarming stats like
the fact that approximately 1.5 million students attend spring break festivities annual and
collectively spend over a billion dollars. Oh, and did you know that due to the lower
legal drinking age in Cancun, over 100,000 spring breakers under the age of 21 travel
to Mexico's hotspot for that very reason?! Mexico isn't the only hotspot for spring fun
though. Daytona Beach is actually the United States' number one Spring Break destination
but is given a bad reputation due to the amount of rapes that take place annual during the
wet-and-wildness. To be fair, Daytona Beach isn't the only place to expect an unsafe environment.
There is always at least one Spring Breaker that accidentally falls off of a balcony annually
and that can happen anywhere. Speaking of being unsafe, it has been reported
from the American Medical Association that more than half of the college students that
attend the widespread event know friends who were sexually active with more than one partner
throughout their stay. Adding to the unsafeness of that is fact that reportedly 3 out of 5
women know close friends who had unprotected sex during their trip. You'd thing the last
thing anyone would want is to get pregnant or be given an STD during one of the most
fun times of the year. Beaches aren't the only places to hit up this
March, though. Travel agencies also cater to those who wish to party around pine trees,
snow and slopes. Many spring breakers would rather plan ski trips and snowboard trips
rather than take long walks on the beach. If you're not into American beaches or snow
for that matter, you can join Spring Breakers abroad but you're going to want to know your
foreign laws like the back of your hand. Over 2,600 Americans are arrested on spring break
while partying abroad each year due to their failure to understand that laws change overseas.
Whether you're staying in the US, traveling abroad or hitting places like Cancun and Punta
Cana, you're going to be one of the more informed partygoers. Travel safely millennials!
